Invisalign For Overbite
You may or may not have heard of Invisalign clear braces – which are something of a revolution in straight teeth treatment. Here at Lion dental practice, based in Stourbridge, our team are experts at orthodontics and can help make your smile more aligned and attractive, while potentially boosting your oral health.
What is Invisalign?
Let’s start this blog by outlining what Invisalign is. Essentially, it’s a type of clear brace, with aligner ‘trays’ made of acrylic. These are custom-created for you, based on your unique smile. You’ll change aligners throughout treatment, as each tray only moves your teeth little by little. Patients love Invisalign because not only are they invisible braces thanks to this clear design, but they’re removable, and because the trays are created at the start of treatment, the system actually predicts your results.
What is an overbite?
An overbite is where your top teeth hang over your bottom teeth. It’s fairly common for it to be a problem, even though many people have an overbite to some degree. Most dental professionals agree that an overbite shouldn’t cover more than around a quarter of the bottom teeth.
What happens if I don’t have my overbite treated?
An overbite can cause tooth wear and jaw pain. This means you’re more likely to have future problems with your smile and in fact, could develop chipped, cracked or broken teeth. Jaw pain can make it difficult to bite, chew and eat in general. Sometimes, jaw pain can cause other pain too, such as headaches.
What other bite problems can Invisalign fix?
Invisalign can fix lots of bite problems, such as an underbite (the opposite of an overbite), a crossbite (which is a bit of both) and an open bite (where there’s a gap between the teeth when closed). All of these scenarios can potentially cause pain, tooth wear and other problems.
What other benefits does Invisalign have?
One of the best benefits besides straightening the smile is the potential to improve your oral health, especially if your ‘old’ smile makes it difficult to clean between the teeth (poor oral care is linked to cavities and gum disease). Also, many of our patients in Stourbridge find it gives them a positive, confident boost and gives them a more youthful and attractive smile.
